gimv is a program that can display images from various formats and directly from archive files. Drag and drop image files, archive files and directories over the window to open them. When a directory is opened, it is scanned for image files and sub-directories, archive files are not opened. When an archive file is opened, it is scanned for image files and also other archive files (archives within archives).

• jpeg - Joint Photographic Experts Group
• webp - WebP image format; not animated
• avif - AVIF image format; not animated
• qoi - Quite Ok Image format
• svg - Scalable Vector Graphics; tiny subset
• bmp - Windows bitmap image format
• tga - Truevision TGA
• gif - Graphics Interchange Format; not animated
• pnm - Netpbm formats P1, P2, P3, P4, P5 and P6
• pcx - PiCture eXchange image format

Archive formats

• zip - ZIP archive file format

Game specific formats

• pak - archive format used in Quake
• bsp - version 29 and ‘BSP2’ used in Quake, version 30 used in Half-Life
• wad - ‘WAD2’ used in Quake, ‘WAD3’ used in Half-Life
• utx - Unreal Package Format ‘0x9E2A83C1’, 68 <= version, used in Unreal Tournament
• mpq - archive file format used in Diablo II and Warcraft III; w3m, w3x and w3n are also mpq files
• dc6 - image format used in Diablo II
• blp - image format used in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos & The Frozen Throne; version 'BLP1' only

Miscellaneous formats

• ico/cur - Windows icon and cursor file format
• exe/dll - Windows Portable Executable; only non-animated bitmaps, icons and cursors
• pdf - images embedded in pdf files; only ‘/Filter /DCTDecode’ images
• html - images embedded in html files with "data URI scheme", other images are not downloaded
• ttf - TrueType font file format; only code points < 65536
